From our Online Resources page under 'All Database Types' we have several databases that include videos, images, and audio that may be helpful to you. A good choice especially for historical images is our database Artstor. 

Some other sites of potential use are the Media Design Lab's Resources Page, Getty Images Free Educational Use images, the Creative Commons Image Search, Pics4Learning, and the Flickr Creative Commons search.

Also, be aware that there is much more flexibility in the use of images for educational purposes compared to personal or commercial use images. These sites may be helpful in determining which images are safe to use in your work:
